This is Native Land

Washington State Historical Society

Tacoma, WA

This Is Native Land is a permanent exhibition at the Washington State Historical Museum that explores Washington’s history through Indigenous perspectives. Developed in collaboration with Native experts, it focuses on Tribal sovereignty, resilience, and the lasting impacts of treaties and land loss.

Visitors begin with towering treaty documents and brief animations that challenge assumptions about settlement, followed by an animated map illustrating the transition from pre-contact landscapes to reservations and allotments.

Real-scale digital portraits share personal stories, while projections animate ancestral placenames on a tactile topographic map. An interactive timeline highlights Indigenous resistance in conflicts, and a digital library reveals historic agreements shaping Tribal lands today.

Blending film, interactives, projections, and tactile elements, the exhibition presents Native history as a living, evolving story. Trivium collaborated with North Shore Productions, along with AldrichPears Associates, CRĒO, EOS Light Media, and Morgan Veregge.
